TD Bank

TD Bank Group is one of Canada’s largest multinational banking and financial services corporations, with a long legacy of philanthropic support for U of T.

The Toronto-Dominion Bank and its subsidiaries, collectively known as TD Bank Group, are headquartered in Toronto and have more than 25 million customers and more than 85,000 employees around the world.

TD recently launched The Ready Commitment, a new global corporate citizenship platform building on TD’s long history of corporate social responsibility. The Ready Commitment is aimed at helping to open doors to a more inclusive and sustainable tomorrow where everyone has the opportunity to succeed with confidence. TD is targeting $1 billion by 2030, by investing in four areas of focus: financial security, a more vibrant planet, connected communities, and better health. In 2017 alone, TD Bank Group donated $107 million to charitable causes, including post-secondary education.

TD Bank Group has fulfilled its community investment priorities in numerous ways at the University of Toronto. The group’s total giving of more than $14.9 million spans investments in research, teaching, scholarships and infrastructure, across the University in such diverse areas as early childhood development, gender and the economy, nursing, and campus green spaces to name just a few. For example, the bank established the TD Bank Higher Education Awards in 1997. More recently, TD supported the TD Limited Term Professorship in Urban Forest Conservation and Biology at the University of Toronto Scarborough, and three initiatives at the Rotman School of Management: the Rotman Financial Innovation Hub in Advanced Analytics; the TD Management Data and Analytics Lab, building on the FinHub gift; and health-care innovation research at the Creative Destruction Lab. These donations build on a long legacy of giving stretching back decades.

U of T alumni have achieved leadership positions within TD Bank Group, including holding the roles of chair and president & CEO. The University is grateful for TD’s support and tremendously proud of its hundreds of alumni who are TD employees—many of whom are themselves generous supporters of the University.

TD Bank Group’s sustained support for students and groundbreaking research further cements the bank’s reputation as one of Canada’s most socially responsible companies.
