Scotiabank is dedicated to helping its 24 million customers through a broad range of advice, products and services, including personal and commercial banking, wealth management and private banking, corporate and investment banking, and capital markets. Scotiabank has a team of more than 89,000 employees and assets of over $923 billion (as of 2018).
Scotiabank and the University of Toronto have enjoyed a longstanding collaboration, dating back some 40 years. Hundreds of U of T graduates have worked for the Bank, with many achieving positions of leadership within the organization. The University is proud of its track record of alumni leadership within one of Canada’s most admired companies.
The University is deeply grateful for Scotiabank’s philanthropic contributions, which total some $6 million in support including student awards, infrastructure, and research. The Bank’s contributions have spanned a wide array of programs and endeavors, including digital initiatives, dentistry, medicine, an indigenous mentorship program, kinesiology and physical education, law and nursing. Some of Scotiabank’s notable gifts include the establishment of the Scotiabank Information Commons at Robarts Library, a hub for students at the heart of the St. George campus.
More recently, Scotiabank gifted $1.75 million to the University of Toronto to create the Scotiabank Disruptive Technologies Venture at the Rotman School of Management and support programs and initiatives that focus on Design Thinking and AI. Part of this contribution also includes a sponsorship for the Machine Learning and Market for Intelligence Conference taking place in October 2018.
