Orlando Corporation is Canada’s largest privately owned industrial real estate developer. Founded 70 years ago, the company owns, leases and manages more than 46 million square feet of industrial, office and retail property in the Greater Toronto Area.
Orlando Corporation is also a model corporate citizen with its generous support for numerous causes, particularly institutions dedicated to health-care and health-sciences research. Recipients of multi-million dollar giving include the William Osler Health System and the Milton District Hospital.
At U of T, Orlando Corporation contributed $7 million in 2016 to help realize the University of Toronto Mississauga’s vision of a new Centre for Medicinal Chemistry. The donation helped advance the work of Professor Patrick Gunning and his team, who have had great success with designing and building chemical compounds capable of disrupting specific biological processes in diseases such as cancer.
In 2022, Orlando Corporation invested $25 million in the University of Toronto’s Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH). A groundbreaking initiative to educate health-care professionals directly in Scarborough, SAMIH is expected to increase the number of doctors, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and rehabilitation specialist professionals in Scarborough and the Eastern GTA, having widespread impact on the community’s health. Orlando Corporation’s extraordinary donation will help construct a new, state-of-the-art building to house SAMIH’s advanced health training programs, including the only nurse-practitioner-led clinic in Canada, which will enable students to deliver direct care while under supervision. A health sciences hub of this size and quality will also provide economic stimulus and professional employment in the region.
