CIBC

CIBC has contributed generously and consistently to the University of Toronto over decades, supporting a wide range of important initiatives that promote educational excellence, access to education and greater diversity and opportunity.

CIBC is one of Canada’s leading financial institutions and a supporter of important causes across North America. With a focus on cancer, persons with disabilities and financial literacy, each year CIBC invests in thousands of community organizations through charitable donations, which include corporate initiatives, as well as employee contributions and fundraising campaigns. Key among these activities are the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure, CIBC Miracle Day and an annual employee volunteer campaign that raises funds for United Way and other charities. CIBC also supports programs that promote student opportunity and advancement.

CIBC and the University of Toronto enjoy a strong relationship that spans several decades. Many U of T graduates have worked at the bank with a number reaching leadership positions, including current President and CEO Victor Dodig (BCom 1988). The University is proud of this record of alumni achievement at one of Canada’s top corporations and grateful for its philanthropic contributions that have had a major impact across a wide range of important initiatives.

CIBC has enabled economic research and scholarships for students in financial need, while also working to promote greater access to education for women and under-represented groups, especially in business and finance, through contributions beginning decades ago. Notable gifts have included their funding of the CIBC Chair in Youth Employment, support for the capital expansion of the Rotman School of Management, and a wide and diverse range of scholarships. Recently, the bank’s giving funded the CIBC Women in Financial Services Scholarships and the Diversity in Management Classroom Seminars at the Rotman School.

Its wide-ranging support for these and many other initiatives across U of T over many years demonstrates that CIBC is a champion of education, opportunity and diversity.
